Who offers the best Replacement Windows?

Are you a homeowner staring at your drafty old windows, wondering how on earth you’re going to survive the dreaded window shopping experience? You know the one — those marathon window presentations where they promise “just 30 minutes,” but somehow you end up trapped in your own living room for hours, wondering if they'll ever leave?

Well, good news! Shopping for replacement windows doesn’t have to be a painful, time-sucking saga. The Wacky Window Woman is here to help. I've sat through the demos so you don't have to.

Be sure to check out the Wacky Window Woman Price Comparison Chart to seer how the larger, well-known window replacement companies in central Ohio stack up when they bid on my 1600 square foot home, 3 bedrooms and 12 windows.

I was confident that I could reach out to three or four companies and ask them to email me a quote. But no, each one insisted that they had to come into my home to give me my free in-home estimate.

I did eventually run into one company who offers a "no appointment quote", Virtual View Windows. You can reach out to Joe and he can gather some information via email, text or phone conversation. He will get you a written quote without ever having to step foot in your home. It all can be done from your phone or computer. Currently, they are the only company I've discovered who can do the whole process virtually.

When we started our Window Shopping journey, the first company we invited in was Mad City Windows and Baths. They have a location just down the street. Talk about a marathon appointment, they were in our home for almost two and one-half hours and their price was over double of the others.

Second on the list of Virtual View Windows. I stumbled onto their website when surfing the web. They promote how they can get you price virtually and promise no high-pressure sales pitch. I was skeptical, but in the end, they had the best price for a very high performing window.

Third on the list was Window World. They sent out "Walt" who was a little quirky, and spoke pretty quickly. He gave us a written quote, demonstrated his window and left beyond plenty of information that allowed me to determine that the window they sell is a budget friendly window that doesn't meet the performance standards of most of the other national companies.

You may qualify for up to $600 back on your taxes if you upgrade to triple pane?

Cost to Replace Windows in central Ohio

The Wacky Window Woman comparison chart will reveal to you the prices and bids that I received from several of the larger replacement window companies. They are in order by price, but don't discount the energy ratings that I've also highlighted and included.

The other thing I learned in my window shopping experience is that if you upgrade to a window that meets the tax credit qualifications, the $600 cash back from Uncle Sam can cover the cost to upgrade to triple pane. Triple pane help with noise reduction which was very important to my husband and me.

Some companies really focus on the warranty and for many of these, the price is substantially higher which I'm guessing is how they they warrant almost everything for a very long time. On the other end of the spectrum are those that offer a decent warranty. They are limited on the time they last, whether they can be transferred to the next homeowner and if any trip fees are required.

Be sure to ask any company that you are considering the details of their warranty so you have a clear understanding of what will be covered in the future, your cost and whether you are able to transfer that warranty to the next homeowner should you decide to sell your home.

As you review the Wacky Window Woman website, you'll note that so far, we've invited nine of the larger, well-known window replacement companies into our home.

When the time came for my husband and I to make a decision, we chose to go with Virtual View Windows. They had the best price and met the energy Star 7.0. Their U-Factor and Air Infiltration numbers were the best on the list. Also, Joe was great and as promised, we were able to do everything virtually without having to invite him into our home.
